CANCER RESEARCH.
DR. GYP’S AND AIR. BARNARD’S THEORIES. FURTHER INVESTIGATION TO BE MADE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON. Jail. 21. Two interesting views of the cancer theorv recently expounded by Dr. G/e and Mr. J. E.' Barnard have just been published. Sir George Beaston, • writing in the British Medical Journal, suggests the possibility that Mr. Barnard did not see the cancer microbe but might have synthetically created new combinations front the materials on which lie played the ultra violer or X-rays. (hi the other hand, the annual report of the British Medical. Research Council says that Dr. Gye and Mr. Barnard have transformed our outlook on the problem of tin* causation of cancer by suggesting that n filter passing virus or ultra microbe is a common factor in malignant tumours, yet is harmless without an adjuvant factor. For the purpose of more rapidly exploiting the possibilities, tlie council is constructing additional laboratories at the Imperial Research Funds’ Millhii! Farm, to which Mr. Barnard’s ultra filtration plant has been transferred from Hampstead. Dr. Gye will supervise parr of the Imperial Funds’ research.
