BRITISH LIBERALS

RUMOURED ALLIANCE. DENIED BY LEADER RIG REPRESENTATION FIRST. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT. (Received Jan. 22, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 21. Rumours that he intended to launch a movement for a Liberal-Labourite alliance have been promptly scotched by -Mr Llovd George. In a speech at Carnarvon he said that it would be unwise for Liberals to negotiate for an alliance with any party. They would concentrate their energies on securing a large Liberal representation in the next Parliament. When that was achieved it would be time to consider co-opera-tion with men prepared to support a programme that the Liberal Party approved of. whether it involved a coalition Government or not. —Reuter. NOT GOING TO PERISH \ WILL AVOID ALLIANCES. S LONDON, Jan. 20. A Liberal affiance with Labour i vas definitely .rejected by Mr Lloyd George (Leader of the Liberal Party) in a speech at Carnarvon. A repetition of events in 1.)L4 was inconceivable, h e said. They accepted their full share of blame for that out it would lie imprudent, to use 1/lie raisin’s trust again and associate with such an alliance. It was useless to piediet that the Socialists would acquire an absolute majority until many e.ections had gone. There was a npic limit to the growth of Socialism, bevond which it could not spread. It would not be wisp for Liberalise to seek an alliance with any party, sa.u Mr Lloyd George, but rather t shcuul proceed to make a powerful position foi itself. Liberalism was not gomg to perish. On the contrary, it would count more at the coming election tnan at any since 1910.
