A NIGHT WT BURNS.
MONDAY, JANUARY 25. All lovers of Burns and Scotsmen in particular look forward with keen interest and pardonable pride tc each 25th of January, for that is the anniversary of the birth of Scotland's immortal bard, and throughout the world that day is fittingly honoured. The Hawera Scottish Society has decided tiliat this year’s function shall take the form of a social gathering —a real festival of Burns’ song and story. The Hon. James Craigie, whose interest in and knowledge of the life and work of Burns is second to none in New Zealand, is coming from Timaru to deliver the oration. This in itself will be an item such as local folk seldom have an opportunity of hearing. The time-honoured custom of the march in of the pipers with the Ode to the Haggis will be carried out in strict accordance Avith tradition. All interested in the life and gospel of Burns, whether they be members of the Scottish Society or otherwise, will be very welcome at this gathering, which Avill be held in the Foresters’ Hall, ITawera, on Monday evening next., Supper will he provided, by the Society, and the admission charge is two shillings.
