ROSES AND SWEET PEAS.

METHODIST FLOWER SHOW. BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY. The annual Hawera Methodist Rose and Sweet Pea Show in the AVmter Show Buildings was opened this afternoon by Mr H. G. Dickie. The hall presented a brilliant spectacle with all the vivid flowers of the season displayed to their best advantage. On enterino- the hall the visitor went through a series of beautiful stalls, in the foreirronncl of which were large Christmas trees well laden, with all the good things that gladden a child’s heart. On the various stalls were displayed fancy work, produce, flowers and sweets. Goin g through the hall one came to the show itself: This year the entries were very heavy, .and the flowers displayed were of a very high quality. The work displayed in the decorative classes was very fine, and showed a great deal of care. In the home industries section some excellent cookery had been entered. The children’s cookery was especially good. The Rev. AA r . J. Oxbrow, m introducing Mr H. G. Dickie, said he thought the show was the best that had vet been held. Mr Dickie said he believed that one of the bright spots in a Parliamentary career was being able to be present at such a function as the opening of a flower show. He was pleased to see such fine collections of flowers at the show. Hawera possessed a good climate and a kindly soil, and he thought that everyone should endeavour to grow flowers and vegetables. He 6aid he intended to he an exhibitor at the show at* some future date. In declaring the show open, he hoped that the results would be very profitable. HOME INDUSTRIES. Madiera cake. —Mrs C. J.
