WHO INVENTED IT ? QUESTION REVIVED IN COURT. 1 • A CAPTAIN’S CLAIM. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT, Received Nov. 25, 2.20 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 24. The question of who invented the tank is being revived in the High Court, where Justice McCardle is hearing a petition of riglit on behali of Captain Bede Bentley, claiming £300,000 from the Crown. Counsel for plaintiff said that Earl Kitchener, whom plaintiff knew m the Boer War, requested him in October, 190.41, to produce an, Armoured car which would be independent of roads. Plaintiff suggested a caterpillarwheeled truck with an armoured body. He described a three hours atterdiuner interview with Earl Kitchener at his house, at which Captain Bentley illustrated his design by means of rubber bands and pins. He asserted that Earl Kitchener requested Captain Bent lev not to patent his claim tor reasons of secrecy. He declared that lie and Earl Kitchener discussed the use of poison gas in 1914. Reuter.
