STRATFORD SHOW.

OPENING DAY. FINE DISPLAY OF STOCK. (From Our Own reporter.) In cold and unseasonable weather conditions the popular Stratford A. and P. Show opened this morning. As always with Stratford, the cattle were exceedingly good, especially in Jerseys' and Friesians. There was also good fields in the horse, pig, and sheep sections. In most of the classes the judges had a difficult task in separating the placed animals, testifying to the standard of excellence in the stock. To-morrow (People’s Day) there will be a series of extra attractions that should create much interest. In addition to the horse leaping there will be buck jumping that last year was so interesting and created such excitement. Intermittent showers of rain affected attendance in the early part of the day, and added to the difficulties of judging. The pedigree Jerseys, Ayrshires and Friesians were the outstanding sections. The judges were emphatic in their praise of the standard and found much care necessary in selecting the winners. The Ayrshire section was the strongest in the ’ history of the show. Mr. F. Mills, of Tokaora, scored heavily in most of the Ayrshire classes and .secured the championship ribbon with his cow Dolores V. PRIZE LIST. PEDIGREE AYRSHIRES. (Judge: Mr A. C. Johnstone, Auroa.)
