MUMMY OF TUT.

HOWARD CARTER OUTLINES HIS PLANS. Plans for the reopening of the tomb of Tutankhamen in October were outlined by Howard Carter in an interviewpublished in Cairo (says the Daily Express Cairo correspondent). Mr. Carter also describes some of the treasures he has taken from the tomb during the winter. “This year,” he says, “we sent nineteen boxes of objects to the antiquities service. Among the most beautiful of the finds were two vase-shaped oil lamps in alabaster, one of which was particularly fine. On the outside there is no ornamentation, neither inscription or graving, but once the interior is lighted the figures of Tutankhamen and his wife in lovely colours become visible in much the same way as a watermark. Besides, these there wa q a perfume burner, exquisitely worked. and a statuette of extraordinary delicacy and precision. Mr. Carter, questioned as to his plans for next winter’s campaign, declared ; “I have, decided to return to Egypt during the last days of September, to reopen the tomb in the first week of October. I shall deal with the mummy of the Pharaoh and other treasures of the tomb. An examination of the mummy from a medical point of view will be made by two eminent professors. Dr. Berry, the celebrated anatomist, and Dr. Salsh Bev Hamdi, snb-director of the school of medicine. The mummy will then be draued up again and in the coffin. After that the Government will decide its fate.”
