JUNE BANKING RETURNS. WELLINGTON, July 11. DUNEDIN LOANS. DUNEDIN, July 11. Reporting on the corporation’s loan issues, the Town Clerk states that the aggregate of loans for the year for providing new capital was £484,845, of which all but £SOOO was raised locally. The present year’s new money requirements amount to £320,000. INCREASED RATES DEMANDED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. Watersiders did not respond at Lyttelton this morning to a call to unload bulk sulphur on the Pomeric, which had arrived from Galveston. They demanded 3s 6d per hour instead of 2s 71 d, the award rate. Later Messrs Kinsey and Company, the agents, agreed to pay 3s, and the work began.

GAMING CASES. WELLINGTON, July 11. At the Police Court, Fong How was fined £4O, Wing On £25, Gong Wah £25 and Wee Kee Fan £25 for allowing their premises to be used 1 as a common gaming house. Several Europeans and Chinese who were found on the premises were fined £2 each. BANKRUPT CHINESE OFFENCE. HAMILTON, July 11. A bankrupt Chinese fruiterer, Ah Moon/ was charged with contracting three debts amounting to £l2B 15s Id without having any reasonable expectations of being able to pay for them. The Magistrate said that the accused was guilty of reckless trading, and even his fellow-countrymen condemned his actions. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment without hard labour.
