MARKET REPORT.

PRICES ALL ROUND FIRM. DAIRY STOCK IN GOOD DEMAND. Since last week there has not been much change, and prices for all stock are still firm, with a hardening tendency, especially for fat cattle and sheep. »The demand i s still keen for ewes in lamb aiid good hoggets. There appears to be a bigger shortage of sheep than was anticipated, a feature which, is operating to make the market very firm. Dairy cows and heifers are maintaining good prices, and good quality typv cattle are in keen , demand. At clearing sales which have been held all over the district good prices have been obtained. One fact that .is very patent is that good quality dairy cows, which show evidence of the best treatment are eagerly sought for, and fanners are willing to give good prices for the animals they want. But it must be remembered that cows will not do their best unless well cared for and well fed. and that unless farmers buying cows that have done well are prepared to give equally good treatment, they cannot get the same results. On present indication,, the price for sheep looks likely to continue. Good fattening ewes have this week brought up to 26s 3d; 2-tooth ewes in lamb to Romney rams, 41s 2d; full-mouth "ewes in lamb, 33s 6d ; good hoggets, 28s and 29s 6d; small hoggets, 23s 6d. Two sales this week of grade Jersey cows have shown remarkable averages. The Farmers’ Co-op. report the average, everything in, for the dairy herd of i\jrr Albert. Ward, Okaiawa, as £l6 2s, and at another sale on account of Mr 0. T. Parry, Mantua, as £l4 10s. The herds were just good grade Jerseys, but in both cases they had specially careful attention.
