NOTES ON THE RACES. (Rv Telegraph.—Special to Star). WELLINGTON, July 9. The weather was most wintry m Wellington to-day, and the Racing Cub suffered in consequence, as many decided not to go to Trenham, but, contrary to expectations, climatic conditions were much more favourable. AVith a/limited attendance, the totalisator figures compared very unfavourably with the corresponding day last year. The race "track to-day was slightly better than on Tuesday. Glenidle was made a pronounced favourite for the Corunna Hurdles, with Da civ Gav and Peter Maxwell best supported of other starters, llippiing was the early leader from Glenidle and Peter MaxwelU and these trio ran in close company till two furlongs from the winning post. I’eter Maxwell led into the straight and won in a canter from Glenid’e. Haligan just beat Rippling on the* post for third place. To Momniui, . with R. Reed in the saddle, was a much better favourite than Lieutenant Bill for the Maiden, with Town Crier and Debate next in order of favouritism. Captain AA'ai was the quickest to begin, and led Star Chamber, Relic, Town Crier and To Monamii on to the course proper. Over the final two furlongs, Te Monanui ran on host to win well from the non-staying Captain AA’ai. Kilorum and Town Crier did the best of the others.

As only to he expected after her good showing on Tuesday, Rehutai was paying little more than “evens” for the Jutland Handicap. King Cheops and Heislc-r were next in order of favouritism. From a good send-off. Heisler immediately took charge from Tinohari. Pantagruel and Ecuador. This was also the order at the straight entrance, but soon Tinohari look charge, and with a furiong to go had a three lengths lead, hut over the last part of the race Rehutai came fast to win we’l from Ecuador, which only beat Koodoo. Peter A mans was better supported than Windermere for the Hack Steeplechase. Other runners well supported were Lady Comet and Sir AA’ai. Windermere led over the first jump, then Peter Amans took charge from Windermere. Birkenel'a and Kovno. Passing the stand, Peter Amans still led from Kovno, Lady Comet and Birkenelia. Going up the back stretch, Sir AA’ai rushed to the 'oad with Peter Amans, Birkenella ail'd Lady Comet following. Six furlongs from home Birkenel'a led, but Sir AA’ai again took oil urge coming to the final jump and in n good finish beat Birkenella nicely. Ladv Comet was a poor third. The Parliamentary Handicap produced a good betting race, Income, being a Uttle better favoured than Passionate. while Kilfane, Arch Salute, and Kilfaire each carried within a hundred pounds of the favourite. When the harrier ,rose. Kilfane began best from Income. Kilfaire and A'aric. The last-named led for a. furlong down the hack, hut six furlongs from home Passionate took charge from Kilfane, Ahirir. Kilfaire and Income. There was no alteration in the leading division till heads were turned for home, at which stage Income and Arch Salute challenged, mid in a good race over the last furlong Income ran on well to heat Kilfane, while .Arch Salute, Alaric and Kilfaire were close up.

Nukumai and Comical monopolised the betting in the High Weight Harnlieap. After Rouihrook, Ronecto and Lucul'ont had lead tlie field in their turn, Comical moved up to join Lucullent. Turnin'; into the straight a furlong from the post. General Carrington eha'lciiged Comical, hut when called on Comical" drew out to heat General Carrington very easily, while Nukumai finished a good third and Captain Sarto fourth.

Rowley was made the hottest favouiite of the day when sent out .lor the Fleet Handicap. Kilia and Adi V" ni vola. also had. good followings. tlie tapes were lifted, Barry got Ivina away smartly, but Rowley wa s soon in front, only to give, way to Lucratire, which led Rowley, Kilia and Jubilee following. Three furlongs from the winning post Rowley again took charge, and leading Kilia. and Adi A iimvola into the straight, appeared to he an easy winner, but over the last couple ot chains Kilia responded well for Barry, and in a sense Bagby was caught ‘ nappin" 1 ’ on Rowley, who did not respond as quickly as expected. Adi Yunivola, after losing much ground at the turn, was a good third, Gardant fourth. Racing concluded with the Petone Handicap, for which event both Highflown and Hob carried over a thousand pounds, no other runner reaching half that sum. Rob was quickly in front, and led Miss O’Ddie and Ardfinnan into the straight. Rob ran on well in the heavy going, and won easily from Ardfinnan, which was lucky to beat Higliflown. Gardinia was fourth. AY EIGHTS FOR GISBORNE. WELLINGTON. July 9.
