STRONG LANGUAGE.

LABOUR- MEMBER’S ADDRESS. CHECKED BY THE SPEAKER. (By Telegraph. —Special to Star.) WELLING I'ON, Julj- 9. Several times during hi s Acldress-iu-Reply speech Mr. Langstone, Labour member for Waimariuo, found that bis expressions had strayed, into paths forbidden by the standing orders. He was consequently puded up_by Mr. Speaker. He gave the Government a good rating for its alleged sins, both positive and negative, criticised what he regarded as Ministerial indifference to Labour members when they were telling Parliament of the distress of the workers through inadequate housing. though Labour members resented as strongly as any of the others the insult once offered to Sir M. Pomare, lie was bound to say that when these members were describing tlie troubles of the workers, the sounds which came from the Ministerial benches resembled “a Captain Cooker.” “I am surprised to think of the pimple of intelligence on the Government benches when they try to criticise Labour’s policy,” declared Mr. Langstone. “It is mot our policy which is on trial, but their own beastly policy, with its reeking ruin.” Mr. Speaker called for order, and tile member withdrew the last expression, substituting for it ‘ ‘the rotten pohci which is responsible for the misery ana bankruptcies which are so prevalent. This passed scrutiny, and Mr. Langstone had a smooth passage until he again broke"into denunciation. “One oF the most contemntible sights I have seen is the Liberal Party, crawling and wounded worms on the face of politics, wriggling themselves out of the Chamber'to escape voting on an issue, and I am sure they have earned the disgust and contempt of every section of the community.” Mr Speaker (severely): Order. Mr Langstone: It has been used m this House before, sir, but I withdraw it. The Leader of the Opposition wave s his hand, hut the application will apply to them as a party.” Finally, Dir. Langstone, without further official check, was able to advocate the official stabilising of prices of primary products as an alternative to allowing the “vultures represented by wool brokers and big produce merchants gathering and battening on the hacks of the producers.”
