MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
THURSDAY, JULY 9. (Before Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M.) DANGEROUS SPEED. Frederick Chalmers (Mr O’Dea) pleaded guilty to a, charge of driving a motor car at. a speed dangerous to the public. Sergeant Henry said that defendant drove at 30 miles per hour at 11 p.m. over the Victoria-High street intersection. Mr O’Dea said that there was not much traffic about at the time, and defendant had informed him that he did not think he had been travelling at 30 miles per hour, and the fact that he had accelerated had made the car sound as if it were going fast. The magistrate said he considered defendant’s action to he indicative of a selfish use of the road. A fine of £5 and 7s court costs was imposed. BY-LAW CASES. \ D. G. Riddiford, for driving a motor v 4 oar in Union street without lights, was fined £1 and 7s court costs. Thomas Walsh and F. Zimmerman were each charged with leaving cars without lights at Normanby, Walsh being fined 10s and 11s costs and Zimmerman 10s and 10s costs. , J. W. H. Harvey was fined .£1 a™ l 7s court costs for driving a gig without lights at Normanby.
