(From Our Own Correspondent.) CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. ' A meeting of the Waimate West Chamber of Commerce was held, on Monday night, a good attendance being presided over by Mr L. G. Neilson. Mr R. Dunn snoke on the importance of herd testing, and recommended every farmer to have hie herd tested. He referred to the old-estab-lish hel - d testing system in Taranaki as compared with the system in vogue in Waikato. Mr Bennett reported on matter prepared for the Tourist Department. Mr Greaves kindly offered to take photographs of the town and district for publication, and his offer was accepted. The P. and T. Department wrote stating that no stamp Vending machine was available at present. It refused to reduce the rental on private boxes. Taranaki Chamber of Commerce asked for support in advocating a scheme for a once a week night express to Wellington. It was decided that the Chamber- of Commerce would give every assistance in that direction in the future. Mr Long referred at length to the important matter of the completion of the railway line to Manaia. He gave explicit reasons why this should he done, showing that the district would inn tori ally benefit therefrom. M,r Dunn supnoi-ted Mr Long, as also did Mr A. G. Bennett. He moved that Messrs Neilson. Long. Dunn and the mover bo appointed to frame a letter to lie sent to the Minister for Railways, urging the completion of the fine, a copy of the letter to be sent to the member for Egmont. Mr Greaves seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. LATE MR. O’DOWD. The mortal remainc; of the ’ate Mr S-.-—O’Dowd were laid to rest at the Manaia Cemetery on Saturday, when one of the largest funeral processions witnessed in M-unaia for a considerable time took place, there being over fortyfive cars in the procession, ns well as pedestrians and a large muster of the Hibernian Society in icgalia. of which lodge Air O’Dowd was- a member for many years. At the Manaia Catholic Church an impressive cemnonv was held, at which the Rev. Fatliei O’Dwyer officiated. The deceased was he’d in high respect by a large circle of friends, who were present from all parts of the district to pav their last, respects and to express their deepest syniapthv with the widow, parents and brothers and sister- of the dn-oased. The Rev. Father O’Dwyer also officiated at the grave.

JTLIAX SOCCER CFP. The Julian Championship Cup competition in the Soccer code is near the end, only one game remaining to lie played, which will not affect the position of Manaia Club. The local team has played six games, winning three and drawing tlnee. thus winning the cup for the 192 d season. Budd. Betteridge/ H. Pollard and R. G. Muggoridge have been selected bv Mr Tvendall. sole selector, to play in the Taranaki representative team at Wanganui on July 11.
