o STEAM LAUNCH SUNK. (by TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, July 8. Th© Union Company’s steamer Wainui collided with and sank the *»team launch Iris Eileen off Rangitoto beacon after leaving for Gisborne last night. There were two men on the launch, Albert Lawrence O’Brien and Raymond Little, and they jumped into the water and were picked up by the Wainui’s boats and Brought back to Auckland by the Wainui, apparently little worse for their immersion.

The launch was owned by O’Brien and his brother, and was valued at about £I2OO.

INQUEST. AUCKLAND, July 8. At the inquest on the two-year-old son of Air C. E. Skipper, of Papatoetoe, it was stated the child fell from its chair and sustained injuries to the head. It died in the hospital after two operations had been performed. A ver diet of death from cerebral compression was returned. AIERCER FLOODS. AUCKLAND, July 8. The flood water at Alercer is receding slowly but steadily. A WINDOW SAIASHER. GISBORNE*, July 8. Whilst ,a dance was proceeding m a public hall the dancers were startled by bricks crashing through two windows. A man was found in the street hurling missiles at shop windows. The accused, George Arthur Ihompson, alias Kemp, was before the Court this morning, and was charged with smashing fi»e •windows, valued at £7O. He had been in gaol for vagrancy, and when released told the gaoler he would return. He was remanded tor medical treatment. A AIOTOR ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN, July 8. As a result of a head-on/collision between a tramcar and a motor m Princes Street last evening, the driver of the latter, John AY., Sutherland, a stock buyer, of Palmerston South, was sent to hospital suffering from injuries to his head.
