A man who was fishing in a. small boat in Sussex Inlet, hooked a twelvefoot shark, which headed for the open sea, dragging the boat with great rapidity. A choppy sea was running, which made the position dangerous, but the fisherman hung on. The fight with the monster lasted for an hour and a half, till, fearing the boat would be swamped, as it was dragged through the increasing waves, he finally cut loose. The water was then too rough to row back, and the boat ivas drifting further seawards when it was picked up by a passing steamer. The man was then almost exhausted.
