Borotra and Mdlle. ijenglen won the two opening games easily, mainly through the former’s accurate overhead smashing, but lest, the ,iext three. The sixth went to the French pair, Mdlle. Lengien playing magnificently. Then the French, with irresistible form, secured the set and the second set. The French team work ■vas superb. After each side had won a game the French went 4 —l. Morpurgo and Ryan could not cope with ;,he solendid variety of shots by the French pair. The doubles was a magnificent match. France was in the ascendant it the start, hut the Americans fought splendidly. Casey’s terrific service was a feature. He also showed surprising strength overhead. The Frenchmen covered the court better than the Americans who, however,, won tv o sets b v sheer hard hitting. Borotra was superb. No ball was* too. far for him to get at. His anticipations were uncannily accurate, his kills untakeable. Rennessy played well, hut appeared to lire towards the close. '
