A largely attended public meeting held yesterday decided to enter a very strong nrotest against-the suggested closing of the Otalci Hospital (states a Press Association message from, Otaki). „ ■ _ The late Mr William Charles Bropliy, of Palmerston North, whose death was announced on Monday (says dominion) • was a. well-known and highlyrespected resident of Palmerston North, and a member of the firm of Messrs Bropliy and Molem. Deceased, who was 56 years of age, was born at Kilkenny, Ireland, and came to. New Zealand with his parents in 1874, landing at the Bluff, and from there going to Riverton. After three years’ residence in the latter town, the family settled in Hawera until 1890, when the late Mr Brophv went to Palmerston North. The deceased gentleman was one of the first members of the Palmerston North Orchestral Society. Ho also took an active part in the affairs of the Palmerston North Band, and was a keen bowler. He bad been in indifferent health for some considerable time* and his death was not unexpected.
