A London message says that Lord Alilner was slightly, better on Sunday morning, but he was still in a very seripus condition.

A passenger by this morning’s mail train, en route for the Alain Trunk line, was Mr. J. B. Murdoch.,. He is on a business trip connected with the woi-k of the Egmont.Eox Company.

Canon C. H. Grant Co wen, vicar of St. Alatthew’s Church, Auckland, and formerly of Hawera, left Auckland on Alonday on a month’s holiday tour of the North Island, including Taranaki district. He is making the trip on the advice of his doctor.

At a general meeting of the Hawera Bowling Club mention was made of the faci that the club was losing one of its enthusiastic members, Air A. W. Skjellerup, who would be settling in Nelson shortly., Regret was expressed that he was going, and best wishes for his success and happiness in his future sphere of life.

The death in Dunedin of Master Reid, son of Air E. G. Reid, of Hawera, a member of the Hawera Bowling Club, was mentioned at the general meeting of the club last night. A vote of sincere sympathy with Air Reid in his sorrow was passed by members, and the secretary was asked to convey that motion by letter.

It will be with deep regret that Hawera people will learn of the death this morning of Miss Joyce Grindrod, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Grindrod. Miss Grindrod, who was only 17 years of age, was very well liked by all with whom she came in contact, and about four years ago creditably filled the role of the Hawera school candidate for the Queen Carnival. She had been ill for some time, and although her death is a great shock to her sorrowing parents and sisters, it was not altogether unexpected. Heartfelt sympathy is extended by all. .
