SCHOOL PICNIC.

FRASER, ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) To-day (Friday) we have 'held the postponed school picnic and prizegiving. Hie memory of it wifi remain many la long day and firing happy reminiscences. Everyone came in every kind of conveyance from every quarter. One can still see a certain respected elderly Maori gentleman carrying carefully a large-sized container, obviously from the cake shop, making a triumphant entry in,to school followed fiy lall the wondering youngsters from the playground. The married ladies distributed the good things from their baskets and every person was kept busy. After tea the chairman of the school committee (Mr. R. Smith) presented the gift books to all school children, and there was a toy for each child nqb yet of school age. Unfortunately the pr.i Ze-wi n nens of the sewing classes were overlooked. Silver thimbles from! Mrs. Pitt, of Nelson, are yet to be presented to Irene Nicholson (juniors) and Caroline Riangi, tonga (seniors). When all the prizes were passed around and commented upon, the children filed out, so as to receive at the door fruit and.lollies. • So ended a very auspicious day. Later on it is proposed to t again invite the parents! to ,see the 'School at work, for it is felt that nothing but good can come’from such social efforts between school and home.
