AUTUMN BLOOMS.

DISPLAY AT KAPONGA. CROQUET CLUB’S SHOW. A SUCCESSFUL EFFORT. Thronged with admiring spectators who attended to view the exhibits of chrysanthemums and autumn blooms at the show conducted by the Kaponga Croquet Club, the Kaponga, Town Hall presented an animated and attractive scene yesterday. Almost every class in the compact schedule was well represented, and the grouping of autumn tints afforded an exceedingly pleasing display, which was the subject of complimentary remarks by all in attendance. Mr W. Moss, of Ngaere, who judged the chrysanthemums, cut blooms and pot plants section, was very favourably impressed with the standard of the exhibits as a whole, and considered the chrysanthemums were an outstanding merit, particularly in view of the advanced stage of the season. He made special mention of the champion bloom, an exquisite white Japanese William Turner specimen shown by Mrs R. Sulzberger, which he described as faultless, though he found it difficult to differentiate between the champion bloom and that shown hv Mrs C. E. Rowe, the latter being a close second. The pot plants exhibits wer© also of a. good standard, th© asparagus ferns being particularly fine, while the decorative section afforded an artistic grouping which reflected much credit on the exhibition. Though the classes in the cookery department were not numerous, each attracted storng entries and keen competition ruled. As a special exhibit, Mr Moss showed an assortment of ornamental shrubs, chrysanthemums, dahlias and ericas, all of which attracted much attention.

, The show was officially opened by Mi- 0. J. Hawken, M.P. During the evening session proceedings were enlivened by side-shows and competitions, which added to the general interest, and together with sales from stalls, and an auction sale conducted by Mr G. P. took, materially assisted in the financial results. With the proceeds of previous efforts during th© club campaign, the net results of the show will be sufficient to defray the cost of preparing the lawn. An appropriate musical programme was rendered by Mrs Evans’ orchestra. The show was capably organised by a. large committee directed by Mrs R. D. Dagg and Miss E. Law, who, shared the secretarial duties in which they were assisted by Messrs S. Death, and C. S. Sweets ancl jeonfectiuneryfwjb.mil,,tfid Hill.
