Notwithstanding all controversy which has puzzled the burgesses ol Wellington to discover how best to wokl a triangular fight <at the coming Mayo rail election,, the figures •of enrolments disc,lose that there is apparently a deal of apathy on the part of the public ia.s> to what sort- of city council the Empire city is going to get. As the city has grown considerably during the past two years, the roll should be larger, but whether the decrease Was been brought a,bout by more diaecic “•purging ’ this year, or because citizens have not been sufficiently interested to see /that their names were upon, the roll, is not stated by the rolls officials. Horne has been, returned unopposed as Mayor. Nine nominations were received for the nine ' se-ts on the council. FURTHER NOMINATIONS.

Auckland —Nominations for the city Mayoralty are Mr George Baildon and Mr Herbert Schmidt. Wangaliui—Air Hope Gibbons, the present Mayor, and (Mr J. Siddel’s have been nominated lor the Mayoralty. There are 23 candidates -for the 12 seats on the council.. Dunedin. —The nomination of Mr H. L. Tap ley for the Mayoralty was unopposed. and lie was declared re-elected. Timaru. —Air G. L. Wallace has been returned unopposed for the Mayoral chair. Six ex-councillors have been nominated, with six new candidates, and these have been elected unopposed. For the hospital board there are five nominations for three seats. For the harbour board only two nominations have been received for three seats. Foi the power hoard-there are four nominations for three seats. Waimate. —Air George Dash lias been declared re-elected as Mayor; Nine councillors nominated have been declared re-elected. Gisborne. —There are two candidates for the Mayoralty, Mr George Wildish (the sitting Mayor) and Mr Fred Iv. Ball. There are 17 candidates for nine seats on the harbour board, and eight candidates for five seats on the hospital board. Pahiatua. —For the Mayoralty Messrs J. D. Wilson ’(sitting Mayor) and J. D, C Crewe (ex-Mayor) have been nominated. Ten have been nominated for nine seats on the council. For the power board representative Mr J. D. Wilson (the present chairman) is opposed bv Air F. G. Bourke. Mr l . Pike was re-elected unopposed to. the hosiptal board. A proposal to form a fire board will also be submitted to the ratepayes. . Temuka. —Mr G. Cartwright was elected Mayor of Temuka, his being the only nomination. There are 12 candidates for nine seats on the borough council. . , Alasterton. —Two nominations have been received for the Alasterton Alayoraltv, necessitating an election. . the nominees are Air T. Jordan (sitting councillor! and Air A. Rippon (ex-coun-cillo'r). On\v eight nominations have been received for the nine seats on the south ward of the borough, neoessitat mg a by-election.
