MANAIA DEMONSTRATION AREA

The ordinary meeting of the committee was held on Thursday last at the office of the. County Council in Manaia. Mr, J. W. Deem, (bainnan) presided. The manager reported that the third out on, the oid lucerne .stand would be completed in a. day or two. It is being fed to the herd in, conjunction with maize. The young lucerne .in the same field was cut again,' about aweek ago and the area is now being cultivated. Field three has been ploughed and is nearly ready for sowing down. ' Aifter discussion it was decided to divide the field into, two six-acre blocks and sow the folio-wing mixtures: Area. 1. —Cocksfoot 6lbs, Perennial five folks. Italian R've lOlbs, Timothy 4lbs. Ottwerafw 4lbs. White Clover 2 libs. Prairie Grass 101b,s. per acre. Area, 2. —Perennial Rye lolbs, Italian Rye lolbs, Timothy filbs. Cowgrass 4 lbs. White Clover 21bs Prairie Grass IOUHs per core. The Prairie grass i s to be broadnasited and disced in. the land then to be prepared for the other grasses. Manure with grass, 2ciwt basic super per acre. The soft turnips and chon moullie” land in field 5 hn,s been ploughed ready for sowing green oats.

The spring sowing in field 6 has hvt been fed again. Tt was decided to ton-dress this with 2nwt basic super per acre. Herd —The, butter-fat for January was 1740’bs. Milk to factory to-dai r <7olbs, test 1 .7. THvo cows and two ho. : fens have been in season since tho end of January.
