LEVEL CROSS FATALITY.
FATAL COLLISION. STRATFORD FARMER KILLED. A level crossing fatality occurred near the Waipuku toll-gate last evening? the Wellington - .New Rlymoutii tram crashing into a motor-car driven by Mr L. S. Hart, a farmer and contractor of Stratford (says the News). Mr Hart sustained several broken i ™’ li a |1( l also severe injuries to his shoulder, and was admitted to the New Plymouth hospital, where lie died at ten minutes to twelve last night. Hart was the sole occupant of the car, and was driving down the Mountain Road en route to Stratford. Ihe engine caught the car almost full on and smashed it badly. The injured man was attended to by Dr. Gordon Anderson, of Wellington, who was a passenger on the train, and who ordered his removal to hospital, the ambulance meeting the train at the New Plymouth station. >
The same crossing was the scene of an accident some weeks ago, when a motor lorry was run into by the mail tram, the two occupants of the lorry having a narrow escape from death. NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov 15. The accident occurred at the Rutland Road crossing a little south of Waipuku, not where the recent accident occurred. Deceased was driving fi om Rutland Road on to th© main road.
