LOCAL AND GENERAL.
In view of th© oommunity lighting demonstration on Monday evehing, the Fisk Jubilee Singers will not commence their programme till 8.20 p.m. At the Wanganui Show very keen interest was displayed in the West Coast champion hunters’ jumping competition. That great horse, Mr. S'. Symes’ Osprey, secured first place, with F. Laird’s Hailstorm second, in a field of nineteen.
Mr. H. B. Burdekin, secretary of the South Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association, has notified the secretary of the Egmont A. and P. Association that members discussed the matter of a motor parade and it was resolved that they should not have a parade this year. A shark measuring 7ft. 3in. in length was caught in Schnapper Bay at the Waingongoro beach last evening by Mr. T. A. Connery, of Tokaora, who landed the monster on an ordinary schnapper line. In view of the fact that Schnapper Bay is a favoured spot for swimming, bathers would be well advised not to take unnecessary risks. The petition for the establishment of a South Taranaki Power Board has been signed by 170 ratepayers of the Waimate West County Council (states the Witness). The following is the output from the Kaupokonui Dairy Oo.’iS chain of factories during the period from November 1 to November 10 (states the Witness) : . Central 237 tons, Sutherland Road 70, Waiokura 94}, Kapuni 76, Auroa 69, Skeet Road 955, Katua 47-}-, Oeo 80; total 769}.
A swarm of bees which obscured the road is said to have been the cause of a motor collision at about 11 a.m. yesterday at the junction of the Main South aud the Eltham-Opunake roade between a car belonging to Mr E. A. Collins, of Te Kiri, and Mr J. Smith’s Opunake-Eltham service car. The latter was proceeding along the South road in the direction of Pihama, and the former towards Opunake from Te Kiri. Fortunately no one was injured, though both cars were damaged. Mr Smith’s car had to be towed into Opunake for repairs. This corner has always been regarded as a dangerous one, and although this particular mishap occurred under extraordinary circumstances, it should indicate to motor drivers the necessity for exercising the utmost precaution when approaching the junction.
Detective stories are interesting to all readers, so Mr. Greenwood’s subject. “The Cleverest Detective in the World,” should prove interesting to all who gather at the Church of Christ on Sunday night.
