A MURDER. CHARGE. r BY TELEG n ATM* —VHRHO ASSOCIATION 1 WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. The trial commenced at the Supreme Court to-day of Joseph Barnes, charged with the murder on May 1 of Walter John Wlv.il 1. The latter died from a knife wound, alleged to have been inflicted by Barnes as a result of a fight in Boulcott street. ABSCONDED FROM CREDITORS. AUCKLAND, Aug. 4. At the Supreme Court, Augustus Gordon Roose was sentenced to six months in prison for absconding from his creditors to Australia. The hearing of a charge of indecent assault on a girl of eight years of age in a picture theatre, with alternative charges of common assault, against Angelo Constanti, the well-known Italian singer, is proceeding.
