A definite refusal to permit a street stall vending jams, sauces, pickles, and other home-made commodities was reached without argument by the Napier City Council, when a request was received from the Salvation Army that the necessary authority be granted. It was stated (say s the Telegraph) that the funds derived from the operations of the proposed stall would assist the purchase'' of new instruments for the Salvation Army Band. but councillors decided. as' a. matter of principle, that the request could not he entertained.
