BATTLE OF MESSINES. UNVEILING CEREMONY. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT LONDON, Aug. 1. The King of the Belgians unveiled the New Zealand memorial at Messines on a commanding position on the brow of the hill overlooking the old front trenches, the panorama including the historic, battle grounds. The gathering included General Sir Alexander Godley, General W. Braithwaite, and General Chaytor, also Sir James and Lady Allen, and Sir George and Lady Fenwick. The memorial ivas dedicated by the Rev. Frank Dunnage, of churchKing Albert expressed the gratitude of the Belgians for the New Zealanders’ valour and generosity. The ceremony was most impressive. The burgomaster undertook to keep the monument in good condition. Sir James Allen placed a wreath on the memorial on behalf of New Zealand. .
