THE EMPIRE
FURTHER CONFERENCE. INVITATIONS TO DOAIINIONS. A. MISUNDERSTANDING. BY CABLE —PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYB.IGHT LONDON, Aug. 1. Referring to, press cables from Australia stating that the latter has not been invited to the, lmperial Conference mentioned for October, and that Australia lias not. even been informed that a conference is to be held, the Colonial Office states that there is an extraordinary misunderstanding somewhere. Every Dominion received a cabled invitation in June, and the majority promptly replied, including Air S. M. Bruce himself. Since June no further communication has been issued from the Colonial Office, beyond the statement by Mr J. H. Thomas (Secretary for the Colonies) in Parliament on July 29 suggesting October as possibly a convenient date for the conference. It is not intended to be another Imperial Conference requiring the attendance of Prime Alinisters, but merely a consultative gathering for the purpose of drawing up a plan for the co-ordina-tion of Britain and the Dominions in foreign and affairs as differentiated from domestic politics.
