FORCED LANDING.
AVIATOR. AT CHRISTCHURCH. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 1. This morning Lieutenant F. C. Ewen, of Hamilton, when flying over Christchurch suburbs, made* a forced landing in his Avro. The wing of the machine touched a wire fence and the machine crashed. The propeller was broken, the undercarriage was smashed, and the wings were broken, but the aviator was unhurt. A relief machine landed a. mechanic, and when starting on the return to the aerodrome made another landing in an adjoining paddock. The machine '.struck a gorse fence and. had to land quickly', the strain imposed breaking the shock absorber. Otherwise no damage was caused.
