MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Manaia Convent Queen. Carnival is creating a good’ deal of interest among the citizens of Manaia and district. It has been going for about six weeks, and the first count was to be held last night. Both committees are working very hard to make* the carnival a great success. The object is a most worthy one, the building of a new Convent school for Manaia. Great credit is due to both committees, who are doing their best in this respect. Of course, like many other objects, the bulk of the work rests on the shoulders of a few. No doubt others will help in the near future. The following guessing competitions were got off during this week: 'Knives— Mr W. Dew, who guessed the right number (025). There, were four who tied for this prize, viz Me.'d ames l). Rothorv and L. Kavanagh and Messrs .T. McCarty and W. Dew. For the weight of' dinner the correct weight was 141 b 1 loz. The prize was won by H. Sutton, five guessing, the same weight as that which won (141 b 8oz). The guessing competition in connection with St. Cuthbort’s Church Guild tray cloth was won by Mr O. Retch, who guessed the right number, 37.
