Pollard's Opera Company.

The box plan for the forthcoming season of this popular combination was opened this morning, and a number of seats have already been secured. This is not to be wondered at, as playgoers are aware of the quality and quantity of the " Pollard " menu, and therefore book their seats without any doubt as to the merits of the entertainment. " A Gaiety Girl," with which the season will be inaugurated on Tuesday next, is described by one critic as a merry mixture of mimetic histrionic, and saltatory art, backed up by bright music, charming costumes, and characteristic scenery, produced for laughing purposes only, with more laughs to the square inch than any farcical or musical comedy the modern stage has yet seen. " The Pollards," as they are familiarly called, are immense favourites with New Zealanders, not only for the excellence of the entainment, but for the cleanliness of their private lives and the strict business integrity of their transactions. We have seen them grow up from childhood almost, until we look upon them as being purely a local institution. Rumour, with its thousand tongues, has failed to cast one spot of black on the clean sheet of respectability tb&t Mr Pollard has carried with him through adverse and prosperous circumstances, during the last eight years. The community must have its players as well as its priests, its politicians, and other workers, and if Mr Pollard can lighten our burdens by hearty laughter and magnificent spectacle, and at the same time elevate the stage in the minds of the " unco guid," and the sceptical, he deserves the success which his well-conducted enterprise deserves.
