Pollard's Opera Company.

We need hardly remind our readers that the box plan for the forthcoming season of this popular combination will be opened at C-hadwick's to-mor-row moroing at ten o'clock. The Company will conclude a most succesful season of six nights in Wanganui to-night, and will visit Feilding on Friday and Saturday, arriving here by the express on Monday night. The | Company numbers exactly seventy people, and is at the present time not I only the largest organisation touring the colonies, but the most expensive theatrical enterprise that has ever visited New Zealand. It may surprise our readers to learn that the turnover of this Company exceeds twenty-six thousand pounds yearly. The nightly expenses in a comparatively cheap town like Hastings, will average £72. The season here will commence on Tuesday next:, and •will be limited to five nights. The initial attraction will be the justly celebrated musical comedy, " A Gaie'y Girl," the piece that made London iuiigh over two years, Paris for one year, and New York for over eighteen months. Of all the musical comedies which have become sa popular with the public during the past few years, " A Gaiety Girl" is certainly the most coherent, and may be said to have the nearest approach to a continuous plot. Taken as a class of entertainment, they are best 'described as " gay lunatics, full of humor, sparkling music, up-to-dare localisms, ludicrous situations,_ and | presented with the utmost brilliancy of colouring." The cast is an exceptionally.,lengthv one, and calls for the full strength of the Company ; in fact, it is only a large combination like " The Pollards " that could adequately present it, as there are over thirty responsible parts, each tending towards a harmonious whole,
