RUSSIA AND AFGHANISTAN
CONFLICTING REPORTS. London, Sept. 6.
The St. Petersburg Press flatly contradict the report that there has been any conflict between Russian and Afghan troops in the Zulflkar Pass. Some marauders were, however, dispersed without loss of life. Intelligence received from Cabul confirms the news of fighting on the Herat-Zulfikar frontier, but nothing definite is yet known. Three Turcoman merchants have been arrested in the Peshawur bazaar on a charge of inciting the native population to revolt. They had lately arrived from Herat, and are supposed to be Russian emissaries.
