FOOTBALL.

The football match between the first fifteen of the Gisborne school and the working boys came off on Saturday afternoon. Although the day was too windy for the match there was a very good game, resulting in a win for the School boys. When the ball was kicked off some very hard scrimmaging took place. Matthews getting the ball, passed it to DeCosta, who by a nice run secured the firsl try for the school boys. This was converted into a well-kicked goal by Trimmer. In the second half some very good play took place, the school boys passing very well. The ball was soon worked down towards the working boys’ goal, where DeCosta passed the ball to O’Meara, who secured a second try for the school, the former kicking a neat goal. On the ball being kicked off, some very hard play took place, Porter carrying it over the school’s goal line, but allowed the leather to slip from his hands, thereby losing the chance of score. The working boys now fought desperately, and succeeded in forcing their opponent:down. After some loose play time was called, the score being six points to nil. For the School DeCosta, Maude, Scott, Matthews, O’Meara., and Robinson played very well, while Thompson, Burns, Buscke, Warren, and Morgan worked hard for the working boys. The apparently easy victory of tho school team may no doubt be attributed to the fact that the working boys played one man short during the first spell, as well as being unable to procure the services of two of their best men. A return match, will no doubt be played before the close of the season
