ENTLEMEN,—As you are aware, Mr Locke at hie Tuesday night's meeting, quite unexpectedly, announced that the state of hie health would not permit of hie carrying on his contest for a eeat in the House. His supporters, while regretting exceedingly that Mr Locke has found it necessary to take this step, arc desirous that some one should come out in his place, and have asked me to do eo, This I have, with a certain amount of diffidence, agreed to do, and I now beg to announce myself as a Candidate for your suffrages at the forthcoming Election. Tbe shortness of the time given me prevents my being able to publish my address to-day, but I shall take an early opportunity of doing so and expressing my views on the various political questions now before the country. "VTOTICE is hereby given that on the 18th ■L ’ August, 1887, this Council will proceed by Special Order to abolish the present Waimata Road District, and to constitute therefrom three new Road Districts, to be known as (1) The Waimata Boad District, comprising the township and suburbs of North Gisborne, the Mangapapa, Hapara, Pou o Turanga, and Matokitoki Blocks; (2) The Kaiti Boad District, to comprise the Kaiti Block; (3) The Whataupoko Road District, to comprise the parts of Whataupoko Block not before described, the Waimata, Waiomoko, Waihirere, and Pouawa Blocks, as the same are delineated on a map on view at the office of the Council, Gisborne.
