Mr Ballance at Wanganui.

HIS PET SCHEME AGAIN. (OWN CORRESPONDENT) Wanganui, last night. The Minister of Lands addressed a meeting at Aramoho, Wanganui, last night, and met with a very cordial reception. He spoke at length on the question of retrenchment, claiming that £lOO,OOO could easily be saved. He advocated Protection, liberal land laws, allotment of lands by ballot to prevent undue competition, and some slight reduction in the education system, which, however, he would have fully maintained. He claimed a success for his village settlement scheme and stated that over 1000 families had been placed on the land by his policy. His opponent, Mr Carson, is very active and a hard contest is expects! between the two candidates.
