So vague is the public mind upon the subject that even in Wellington it seems necessary to mention that claims to vote will bo received by the Registration Officers up to the date of the issue of the writs. The Registration offices will then close, COLONIAL BANK REPORT. UVNEDtN, last night. The half-yearly report and balance sheet of the Colonial Bank shows that the profits for the half year, while making due provision for bad and doubtful debts, are L 15.000. A dividend at the rate of 7 per cent, will be declared. VOGEL AT CHRISTCHURCH. AN OPPONENT FOB MR RICHARDSON Wellington, last night. Sir Julius Vogel will address his constituents on Tuesday. Mr Moore, Mayor of Kaiapoi, has come out against Mr Richardson In response to a requisition with 440 signatures. THE SUPPOSED CATTLE DISEASE IN THE WAIRARAPA, Mastebton, last night. The alleged cattle disease turned out to be erg, and the Australian authorities have been informed to that effect. THE EVENING POST ON MAJOB ATKINSON. Wellington, last night. The Poet says it would be an injury to the colony if Major Atkinson was rejected by his constituents on some trumpery local question. It does not agree with Atkinson politically, but holds that such a man can ba ill spared from our Parliament. FIRE AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, last night. A fire broke out in the Albion boarding house, Customs street, on Sunday morning, but it was suppressed before any great damage was done, DEATH FROM LOCK-JAW AT NAPIER. JOE IVESS RUNS ORMOND. Napier, Last Night. A man named. Nealjdied of lock-jaw caused by cutting his foot on a broken bottle a fortnight ago. A requisition is being publicly signed asking Mr J. Ivess to contest the Napier seat.
