The water supply account is also deficient over £B,OOO, but the gas account is in credit by nearly £4,000. NEW PLYMOUTH’S HOBBY. Naw Plymouth, last night. A meeting was held to-day to receive reports upon the recent smelting. It was stated that Mr Hipkins had been occupied ten weeks. In all three thousand fire clay bricks had been put into the furnace. Mr Hipkins showed the furnace was most defective, owing to a period of nearly twelve years having elapsed since it had been previously used. It was totally unfit for any further trial. There was twelve tons of metal. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £2O, upwards of £650 having been expended.
