A Cool Request.

WANTS TO BE AN M.H.B. The South Dunedin Borough Council last evening, says the Dunedin Stan received a written address signed by John Worthington, who offered himself as a candidate to represent the Caversham district in the House of Parliament. The would be candidate stated that he was a painter, but as trade was dull at present he was desirous of finding some means of employing his time more usefully and 'profitably to himself and his adopted country. Being possessed of an estate in the district far in excess of his requirements, it would not be thought for one moment that he was seeking election in the hope of getting the honorarium for he proposed, if elected, to keep an accurate account of the expenses in connection with his legislative duties, and once a year to submit such account to the secretary of an appointed committee for that purpose, and if there was any surplus it could be applied to some useful work in the district. He would address mass meetings in the district, when an opportunity would be afforded of judging his qualifications. He contended that although the present member had represented the district well, it was bad policy to “work the willing horse to death,” and if given a rest for a time, he (the willing horse) would be able at some future time to do the district good service.
