JIMMY DILLON SUCCEEDS IN CHAMPION FREE-FOR-ALL

Single Direct’s Pacing Record

CHRISTCHURCH, November 13. Jimmy Dillon won the New Zealand Champion Free-for-AIl at Addington yesterday from Jimmy Scott and Fantom. The race was one of the feature events on the last day’s card of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Jubilee meeting. It was Jimmy Dillon’s second win for the meeting, and it gave M. Holmes, his driver, his eighth winning drive in the four days’ racing. Jimmy Dillon was always ~well placed and, after being fourth into the straight, wore down Jimmy Scott to win narrowly, but well. Jimmy Scott made a gallant attempt to lead all the way and only just failed to achieve his object. Fantom, which had started from the second line, was a useful third, a neck in front of Aeriaf Scott. It was a most interesting race, although the favourite, Acclamation, after being slow to find her feel, failed 1 to make, any impression. The success of Jimmy Dillon was easily his most important to date, while his time for the distance set fresh figures for a win by a horse of his gait. Jimmy Dillon paid over a score on the totalisator. 1

The meeting concluded on a particularly high note, Single Direct, which is the best pacer racing in New Zealand at the present time, winning the New Zealand Pacing Championship in record winning time, from Integrity and Globe Direct. His success in Friday’s Free-for-AIl and again yesterday has brought his total winnings to date to £26,175. He is due for another trip to the InterDominion Championships next year in Melbourne, a contest which he won last year in Wayville. It would seem that with Highland Fling out of the way he has no peer racing at the present time. The weather was fine for the meeting and there was a good' attendance. The totalisator handled £160,660, as against £140,8871 lasUyear, white the total for the meeting showed an increase of £38,845 on that handled last year, the respective sums being £689,729 compared with £659.884. The same limit will apply in the President’s Handicap on the third dav. when the stake will be £3,500. plus a canteen of cutlery, valued at £5O. Matmee Meeting at Omoto Recalling the success of last year's meeting conducted by the Owners’ and Breeders’ at Omoto in aid of the much deplete dfunds of such a worthy organisation as the Plunket Society, there is sure to be a greater attendance at this year’s fixture, on Satur-1 day, November 26. with the first event to start at 12.45. The Plunket Society and the R.S.A. building fund are to receive the profits from the meeting. On that score alone, it should makq. an appeal to the citizens of Greymouth and district. There will be three galloping and thme trotting events, white farmers’ hacks ar > also to have an event. A couple of maiden pacers are to come from Christchurch for I lie meeting. Entries wil' be forthcoming from Reefton, Westport, and South Westland, as a tune-up for engagements ahead. There will be the usual facilities on the course, with soft drinks, ice creams, afternoon teas and a booth. It is a day that many are looking forward to.
