Investigation of Ngauruhoe Eruption

P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov.' 7 Investigation of the lava flow discharged by Mt. Ngauruhoe during its recent eruption is being made by the geologist to the Auckland museum, Mr M. T. Battey arid a member, of the Geological Survey branch of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Mr L. R. Allen, Rotorua. They have spent four days at Mangatepopo Hut at base of Mt. Ngauruhoe, and after a break at the week-end have returned there. Most of the recent lava flows from Mt. Ngauruhoe are to be found in Mangatepop Valley, above the hut, and the object of the present visit is to map the limits of those flows. It is also the intention of the geologists to pay particular attention to the 1949 flow, and to collect specimens from it. Low cloud and rain have caused delays, leaving some of the work still uncompleted.
