OPERATIC SOCIETY ELECTS OFFICERS

The following were elected at the annual meeting of the Greymouth Operatic Society (Inc.): Patron, Mr J. W. Hannan; president, Mr J. C. Gilbert; vice-president, Mr L. C. Lindley; producer, Mr L. McGla.shan; musical director, Mr L. Hall; secretary, Mi- H. J. Wicks; auditor, Mr J. McAlister; management committee, Mrs W. B. Hutton, Mrs J. Wilkins, Misses Shirley Brown, Betty Stackhouse, Joy Dale, Messrs J. Cunninngham, W. Anderson, E. Swift, R. Malpass, and M Saunders; casting committee, Mrs W. B. Hutton, Mr A. Warnes, Mr L. CLindley. The president, in his annual report, said that it was with the deepest regret that he had to record the death of a foundation member, in the person of the late Mr William F. Ford. Mr Ford acted in the capacity ot musical director to the Society, and gave unsparingly of his time and talent, in its interests. It is to be hoped that the Society will not fail to recognise this, and make provision to perpetuate his memory. The Society is doubly unfortunate in that it has’lost (temporarily) title services of its official accompaniste, Miss Aileen Greaves. It is fitting that tins report should acknowledge the Society’s indebtedness to Miss Greaves and wish her all success in her sojourn overseas. Our thanks are due to all who supported us during the pHSt year —to those who availed themselves of advertising space in our programmes —to the press for its friendly' and helpful criticism, the management of Station o\Z, rOi the many courtesies extended to the Society’s members. Social held during the year were very successful. and reflect great credit Oxi the social committee. Preliminary arrangements are well m hand next vear’s moduction, and it. is to bn' hoped that all interested will enter into the new production wit a that measure ci enthusiasm which is necessary to ensure its success.
