UNPAID TAXES IN BRITAIN MAY BE 500 MILLIONS

Drive For Recovery (Rec. 9.55). LONDON, Nov. 6. The Sunday Dispatch reports: The British Government will soon begin a drive to recover unpaid taxes. These taxes were left unpaid during the war years and the post-war years. They are estimated at one hundred millions sterling at least. They possibly total five hundred millions sterling. The Inland Revenue officials will interview thousands of people who have deliberately rendered inaccurate income tax returns during the past ten years, and will ask them to explain the discrepancies. These people range from leading business men to small tax dodgers. Some of them will go to prison. Many more will have to pay penalties up to three times thte amount of the evasion.
