MOTOR CYCLING Motor-Cycle Sports At Sandy’s Hill, Kumara
Yesterday members of the Greymouth Motor Cycle and Light Car Club, held a sports meeting at Sandy’s Hill Kumara. A large crowd present were thrilled with acceleration tests Fast times were registered in hill climbs. In one acceleration test, an over-eager rider could not control his bike as the flag went down signifying the start of the race. The bike with the rider trying desperately to gain control, travelled ome distance on its rear wheel until it came to rest on the side of the road amongst some gorse. The rider, however, was uninjured. The following are the times registered by the competitors in the fastest runs.:— 1-1:11 Climb 350 cc Class: A. Ash (Velocette) 28 l-ssecl; G. Topp (J.A.P.) 29 2-ssec 2; S. Gugum (Matchless) 30sec 3. 500ee Class: P. B. Wareing (Ariel) 25 4-ssec 1; L. McVicar (Triumph) 26 2-ssec2; R. Newton (Norton) 27 2-5 sec 3. Quarter Mile —Acceleration Test 350 cc Class: A. Ash (Velocette) 19 4-ssec 1; S. Gugum (Machless) 21sec 2: N. Stanley (Ariel 21 2-ssec 3. bOOcc P. B. Wareing 17 4-sec 1; L. McVicar and N. Peters ISsec equal 2; R. Newton 18 4-ssec 4.
