LEVIN DOUBLES TOTE ON DEC. 17

WELLINGTON, Nov 3. A doubles' totalisator will also be in use at the Levin Racing Club’s meeting on December 17, two days after the Gaming Amendment Act, 1949 becomes operative. This will be the first time in over 40 years that race patrons will be able, legally at least to “take a double.’’ The secretary of the club, Mr R.G. Romans, confirmed this morning that the club already had the preliminary arrangements in hand for the operation of the doubles totalisator. Three other clubs, Westland Ohinemuri, and Tapanui, will race on December 17. It has already been announced that the doubles totalisator will be used at the Westland meeting, and the system will probably be introduced also at the other two fixtures. present plans envisage the ‘Tuning’' of only one double on each day’s racing and details of the system are in course of preparation by executive connnit'ee of the New Zealand Racing and Plotting Conferences.
