EAST GERMANY BE PLACED IN THE COMINFORM
BERLIN, October 9.
Russia to-day prepared a place among the Cominform Powers for the new East German Republic. The Communist leaders of the new State expressed certainty that the State’s “sovereignty and independence” would be formally recognised by the Soviet Government on October 11, when Herr Wilhelm Pieck is elected President.
. The Official Soviet newspaper Taegliche Rundschau prophesied that, the new Eastern State’s Foreign Minister would “seek the conclusion of a Peace Treaty and tne withdrawal of all the occupation troops.“ The chairman of the Soviet zone Liberal Democratic Party, Professor Hermann Kastner, said to-day' that the Western and Eastern German Government should live together as “brother and sister.” He hoped that representatives of both Governments would meet soon for talks.
“We shouldn’t shout at each other,” he said in an interview v'ith the British controlled paper Welt am Sonntag.
Professor Kastner said that the Eastern German Government would follow a middle course and de- everything in its power to establish contact wtih the Western German. Government.
Professor Kastner is expected to become deputy Minister President, of the Eastern Government this week when Herr Otto Grotewohi, cnarrniw.. of the Socialist Unity Party and Minister President-designate, presents his Cabinet to the Provisional Lower House.
