FORGED MONEY NOW CIRCULATING ALL OVER WORLD

Police Drive Against International Criminals

(Rec. 10.35) LONDON, Oct. 10 The police of the world will launch a combined drive against international criminals in 1950, says the “Daily Telegraph.” C.I.D. chiefs from countries throughout the world are meeting at Berne to-day for a seven-day conference on plans that have been made by a committee of the International Criminal Police Commission. Russia and Spain are the only two European nations which have not become members of the commission.

The main subjects on the agenda will be: —

(1) The perfection of a world-wide radio link with an agreed international code which will be easily read and understood by all of the police forces. (2) The operation of a new plan to stop a highly-organised gang which is expertly forging most of the currencies and to stop the circulation of the forgeries on a worldwide basis. These forgers are thought to be operating from Europe through agents in nearly every country. They have now been operating for more than two sears, without their headquarters and their printing plant yet being located. Their forgeries already have upset the economic recovery of some countries.

When the new plans are working, it will be almost impossible for the international criminals to travel from country to country without being quickly trapped. The “Daily Express” correspondent at Brussels says: There is an international gang of forgers who ar? using Belgium as a base in planning to flood Britain with thousands of worthless dollar notes. The first batch of the notes has crossed the channel and the second one is due to leave on October 21. It is known that machines producing these fake dollars are in Germany. They were set up during the Nazi regime. The forgeries carry the United States Treasury watermark, and they run from one dollar bills tq one hundred dollar bills.
