COLDS CURED IN AN HOUR BY U.S. NAVY PILLS
(Rec 5.55) NEW YORK, Sept 27. A pill which would cure 90 per cent, of colds, if it were taken at the first sign of a cold, has been developed. This is announced m a United States Navy bulletin. _ The pil was discovered accidentally by doctors who were using antihistaminic drugs to treat patients for hay fever and for other allergic disorders. Research has been carried out by Captain John Brewster. He treated 572 patients with colds, over a period of seven months at the naval hospital of Illinois. Captain Brewster reported that 90 per cent, of the patients who were treated with anti-histamin-ic drugs were cured wtihin one hour after the cold symptons first showed. The colds disappeared in 87 per cent, of those treated within, two hours. Seventy-four per cent, of the patients who were treated within 12 hours of the first symptons were als cured Captain Brewster said that the cold was consideerd to have been cured if all cf the signs and symptons disappeared completely within. 24 houis an dremained absent, for at least 48 hours after all treatment had been stopped. He added that this “cold killer” at present, could be bought only on a doctor’s prescription. The tablet coating had a small amount of a newly perfected drug, named chlortrirnetin.
