PACIFIC AIR FARES TO BE ALTERED ON SATURDAY
P.A. AUCKLAND, September 27. Advice of changes in fares, affecting all of the aviation lines in the Pacific, was received from the United States to-night by the Auckland office of Pan-American Airways. The changes follow an emergency meeting of the fares committee of the International Air Transport Association held in London, to overcome anomalies caused by the devaluation of the pound sterling. The new fares will operate from October 1, but they have to be ratified at a full meeting of the Association to be held in Mexico City, on November 9. The fares on the trans-Paciflc air services was based by the Association on the dollar. The charges for this route in sterling have, therefore, been increased to maintain the parity with dollars. In other areas where the Association bases the fares on sterling, the charges, when paid in dollars, will be reduced to the extent of the new relationship.
