Unofficial Strike of Pit Winders Idles 830,00 Miners

LONDON, Aug. 22

A strike by a few hundred men who operate the pit cages in coal mines has thrown many British mines out of production and thousands of men are idle.

In the Yorkshire area 63,000 miners are affected and 20,000 Lancashire miners are idle. The pit winders’ stoppage was staged against official union advice to enforce a demand for higher wages.
